A Minimalist approach to water Chemistry
First of all think of your spa as a house plant. Too much or too little can be bad  in the overall
approach to maintaining your spa. Second
, find out the volume of your spa ,How much water
are you actually treating if you take seats and recliners out . This information can be found on
the manefactors website or by using an attachment for the garden hose that meters water
delivery
.
First
Chlorine or
Bromine
Ozone
and Silver
Iodide
Sanitation is only half of the puzzle when it comes to maintaining your spa,PH or the acid
balance of the water is the other. It is this acid that is responsible for burning eyes and dry skin
and also frequent spa repairs. The product that you decide to use is a compound made up of
many different elements one of them sulfuric acid. So remember each time you add chlorine or
refill the tablet dispenser your adding acid. Acids reacts differently to hot water. They tend to be
heavier than water and sink to the floor. That's why when you turn the jets up the churning of the
water brings them to the surface.

Acid will not go away on its own but has to be chemically neutralized by base compounds like
sodium bicarbonate[baking soda] or base compounds normally referred to as Spa Up,PH Up
or acid neutralizers. These products are administered usually one or twice monthly
Water Chemistry
Decide whether or not you want  a chemical treatment that trends downward or a treatment that
trends upward with the sanitizer. Chlorine powder requires you to administer it several times a
week
and will self correct if the water gets too strong. Bromine tablets don't know when to stop
releasing and can be destructive to
heaters,seals and plumbing.

With Chlorine powder the tub will alert you that the sanitizer level is not sufficient by a
Slim-inness beginning to form on the walls or if you use test strips or reagents a value lower
than 1.0 on the scale. Using Bromine which produces less of an odor you HAVE to test to see
that your values are under 2.5 on the scale. Burning eyes dry skin  a musky smell are all
indications of bromine levels too high. We recommend keeping no more than two tablets in your
bromine dispenser at a time DO NOT USE POOL CHEMICALS IN SPAS  they release too quickly.
Ozone can be a useful addition to your spa  with certain caveats. First of all it is not capable of
doing all the work,Secondly it can be destructive to spa covers and spa pillows. Families with
very young children that might use the spa , I don't even recommend them due to the fact that
they might swallow water, get water in the ears or up the nostrils. These families would do
better with a chemical regimen and not an accessory that helps with the chemical regime
Silver Iodide is a viable substitution for Chlorine and Bromine but has to be replace every 3
months and works better on smaller spa of 2-300 gallons
We DO NOT at this time recommend
Baquacil just too many problems with hot water
What is
PH
Summery
Don't make this harder than it needs to be, All you need is Chlorine Powder or Bromine tablets
a test kit and a little Arm & Hammer baking soda to effectively treat your spa. Remember ,the
more you a
dd to the water the more you have to adjust later on, Tablets and Powders can
increase water hardness leading to pump seal leaks if over
-used To prevent this build up
drain the spa every 3 to 4 mounths
